Trip Overview:

Experience the beauty of Nam Ha NPA over 4 days. Visit caves, meet minority groups, trek through hidden forests, and kayak on the Nam Ha River. Discover herbs, plants, and wildlife habitats. Enjoy authentic Lao food prepared using traditional bushcraft methods. Learn survival skills like foraging, shelter building, and utilizing natural resources.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Luang Namtha - Ban Prang - Ban Nam Khouy
Morning: Briefing at 9:00 AM. Visit the morning market for supplies. Explore Khmu culture in Ban Prang. Trek from Ban Prang to Ban Nam Khouy. Afternoon: Forage for lunch ingredients and cook using jungle methods. Arrive at Lahu village around 3:00 PM for sightseeing and cultural exploration. Evening: Cooking class and bonfire storytelling. Accommodation in the village (no toilet, bathing in a stream).

Day 2: Ban Nam Khouy - Jungle Camp
Morning: After breakfast, trek through Nam Ha NPA to Jungle Camp 1, exploring the primary forest and foraging for edible vegetation. Afternoon: Continue trekking through untouched jungle, learning survival skills and about medicinal plants. Set up camp around 4:00-5:00 PM. Evening: Build a banana leaf shelter and bamboo cutlery. Enjoy dinner by the bonfire.

Day 3: Jungle Camp - Ban Nalan
Morning: Optional early morning jungle safari. Trek downhill to the river. Choose between a longer or shorter trek to the next campsite. Afternoon: Picnic lunch in the jungle. Trek through dense jungle, arriving at Ban Nalan homestay before exploring Khmu culture. Evening: Dinner at 7:00 PM, followed by a Baci ceremony and Khmu traditional performance. Overnight in Khmu homestay.

Day 4: Ban Nalan - Ban Houylued
Morning: Breakfast and kayaking instructions. Paddle down the river, visiting Nalan Tai village and enjoying a Lao picnic lunch. Afternoon: Continue kayaking through rapids, visiting Nam Koy village to learn about natural dyeing and bamboo paper making. Finish at Houy Leuat village and return by tuk-tuk.
